• TONE UPS 50+? 60+? 70+? 80+? (Exercise class)
Do you feel the need to do some regular gentle EXERCISE to improve your HEALTH and FITNESS in a friendly group? Then come along on Monday and Thursdays 10am to 11am to TONE UPS at the Village Hall. Jean, our instructor, leads us through 30 minutes of easy floor exercises to music followed by chair exercises. Wear comfortable clothes. £1 per session.
• WIRRAL SHOTOKAN KARATE CLUB
Our club meets in the Village Hall on Friday evenings. We have members aged from 8 to 60 years old. We would welcome more people from New Ferry joining our club as we believe we can offer a place to come and benefit from a healthy sport and learn a discipline that encourages respect for other people and a respect for the community.
• NEW FERRY NETBALL TEAM
We have now two senior teams and both the teams are doing really well in the Birkenhead Netball League. We train inside the Village Hall and welcome new members who might like to join us.
• NEW FERRY ACTIVE PLAY PROJECT
TAPP is now in its second year and continues to be a successful local play project. The weekly session runs every Wednesday from 3.30pm till 5.30pm. A strong team of three playworkers plan and deliver a range of play activities and opportunities for local children aged 5 to 12. These include playing team sports, and arts and crafts activities.
• BADMINTON CLUB Our badminton group meets each Monday evening from 5.45pm to 6.45pm. We welcome any new members.
• WIRRAL PREMIER TABLE TENNIS CLUB
Wirral Premier meet every Wednesday evening. As a club we enter national tournaments and most of our players have played at county level and some at international. Our women’s British League and Junior British League teams are both performing well in their divisions.
• WHIST CLUB
We meet on Tuesday afternoons. Trips out are organised throughout the year and new members are always welcome.
• FARMERS’ MARKET
New Ferry Farmers’ Market is held monthly at the Village Hall, every second Saturday through the year. It is one of the most popular markets in the North of England and regularly attracts visitor numbers exceeding 2000. Farmers Markets’ around the country are increasingly popular, but what makes New Ferry Market special is that while most markets are run by private businesses, producers and councils this one is completely run by volunteers for the benefit of the local community. The original idea emerged over four years ago from the New Ferry Regeneration Action Group when it was suggested as a way of helping to bring more people into the area. It was set up with three main aims:
- to help regenerate New Ferry
- to bring sustainable sources of food to the area
- to support small, local and regional producers
The market always welcomes new volunteers, especially those who could help set up the market on Saturday mornings. To find out more, please email wfm@btinternet.com
• WIRRAL MIND
Wirral Mind runs a Mental Health Drop In Centre at New Ferry Village Hall. We provide invaluable support for service users, giving them the opportunity to meet on a regular basis in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, to socialise, meet new people and liaise with Health Professionals. Service users have the opportunity to play pool, table tennis, and to try their hand at Arts and craft. We also have an annual Christmas lunch out which is well attended each year.
• CRAFT CLUB
Our craft club members meet at the Village Hall on Mondays 11.30am to 1.30pm. We have recently supported the Romanian Orphans’ Appeal, knitting and sewing garments for the Easter and Christmas collection. We have learnt a new patchwork technique and have
made another quilt which will duly be raffled for charity. New members are welcome and can bring their own work and any new ideas.
• BEBINGTON SOVEREIGN MAJORETTES
The Bebington Sovereign Majorettes comprises 50+ girls ranging from as young as 3 years old to early 20’s. We use the New Ferry Village Hall every Friday evening throughout the year and each Sunday afternoon during the Winter months. New members are always welcome.
• SHILLINGS NETBALL TEAM
We train every Thursday at 8.30pm to 9.30pm at New Ferry Village Hall. New members welcome.
• NEW FERRY BOWLING CLUB
We meet every Wednesday afternoon at the Village Hall between 12pm and 3pm. Anyone is welcome to join us on a Wednesday afternoon. We are not competitive but enjoy a game of bowls and a cuppa. Experience of bowls is not necessary.
• BIG BOOK STUDY GROUP
Our group, the Friday evening “Big Book Study Group” helps people who have suffered from the devastating effects of alcohol addiction to recover their health and live more happy and contented lives. The group consists mainly of men and woman from the local area although anyone can attend the meeting if they feel the need for help and encouragement.
• NFGR TABLE TENNIS CLUB
The NFGR Table Tennis Club was formed in 2006, amalgamating New Ferry and Gautby Road Community Centres for table tennis open to the general public. We meet at New Ferry on Sundays 10am to 12.30pm and on Mondays 7pm to 10pm for coaching sessions for players of any age, sex or standard of play, beginners being especially welcome. Four teams of open age are entered in the Wirral Table Tennis League and two cadet teams in the National Cadet League. Anyone who wishes to join the club and enjoy table tennis in a friendly environment is very welcome and should contact Sam Cant on 645 5753.
