Church Hall Refurbishment with the help of Biffaward
26/11/08 14:25
Many New Ferry
residents, and from further afield, are frequent
visitors to the church hall for various community
groups which hold their meetings there. Those at the
Families Groups, Guides, Luncheon Club, the
after-schools clubs, senior citizens meetings, and
Slimming World will already have noted the new tiling
to the main entrance; how the cloakrooms have been
refurbished with new lights and hand washbasins; as
well as the changes in the kitchen with new light
fittings, and a replacement boiler providing hot water
for sinks and washbasins. These works were done over
the summer.
As we keep rents as low as possible, we have not been able to attend to larger items of expenditure which are now long overdue. However, we are delighted that Biffaward have very generously awarded a grant to replace the old rotting window frames with new double glazed uPVC units. This will be a great improvement both in warmth and in reducing our carbon footprint. Biffaward have also offered to fund the replacement of the old main door lock, so keyholders who have the frustration of trying to get in to the Hall will be especially pleased! These works will be completed very soon, and certainly before Christmas.
The next phase of the refurbishment will be an interior decoration together with new curtains to the replacement windows.

Postcards from the Park
14/05/08 20:20
Following
the success of last year's Postcards from the Park
competition, the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) and Big
Lottery Fund (BIG) have again joined forces with
GreenSpace to re-launch this exciting photo
competition. We have £1,000 in Jessops vouchers up for
grabs for the lucky overall winner, and all regional
and country finalists and runners-up will have their
photos professionally curated for a national
exhibition. They'll also be turned into postcards,
which will be distributed at Lottery-funded venues
across the UK. To take part, just log onto
www.postcardsfromthepark.org.uk
to
enter, and to find tips on how to take that perfect
photo. You can also take a photo on your mobile
phone and send it in by MMS. Text PARKS, followed by
your name and where you've taken your photo in the
subject header, to 07803 851 600. The MMS is charged
at your operator's standard rate. The closing date
is 1 August 2008 - so get snapping!

Wirral Beauty Spot
14/02/08 17:41
How would
you like to join a small group of local residents
taking care of a local beauty spot?
You may wonder where this place is; Meols, Parkgate and Hoylake all spring to mind. You would be wrong; we have a beautiful, natural asset right here in New Ferry on Shorefields.
This open green area is the only flat, accessible area between Woodside and Eastham, affording uninterrupted views across the River Mersey and Liverpool skyline. There is a small wooded area with natural plants and foliage and the beach below is an SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) because of the rare birds that come here for winter feeding.
We would like to turn this area into NEW FERRY NATURE PARK, encouraging an abundance of wildlife and plants for all to enjoy, much the same as New Ferry Butterfly Park. Those amongst us with children and grandchildren or those that are just environmentally aware or wish to enjoy natural beauty will be appalled by the few that treat it as a dumping ground for old vehicles and D.I.Y rubbish.
We have managed to obtain some funds for this area and need support from residents of New Ferry for various things, including petitions and litter-picks. If you think you can help us in anyway at all please use any of the various contact methods.

Dear New Ferry
Regeneration Action Group,
I’ve just been looking at the new website after seeing it in the newsletter yesterday, and I would like to comment on how good it is – Well Done! I particularly liked seeing the old photographs.
Thank you for continuing to improve the area we live in.
Yours faithfully,
